The Director Development Programme
 
The Director Development Programme has been designed by the Mauritius Institute of Directors, in conjunction with the Global Corporate Governance Forum, to promote good corporate governance across all industries and sectors in Mauritius and to advance corporate governance reforms.

The Director Development Programme aims to provide a modular, flexible curriculum that will teach the principles of good governance to all stakeholders at all levels of governance in order to strengthen effectiveness and professionalism. Through this training, the participants are encouraged to be change agents of corporate governance by developing the knowledge and skills to build support within organisations and boards for implementing and sharing best practices. The Director Development Programme is composed of two levels: Intermediate and Advanced.
 
The DDP is now composed of two levels: Intermediate and Advanced. The Intermediate Level is now comprised of 12 modules:
  • The Case for Corporate Governance
  • Corporate Regulatory & Compliance Framework
  • The Role of the Chairman, CEO & Company Secretary
  • The Board: Practices, Composition, Procedures, Liabilities
  • Disclosure and Transparency
  • The Governance of Strategy
  • Risk Management & Internal Control
  • Risk Management & Internal Control
  • Board Performance and Evaluation
  • Financial Oversight and Reporting
  • Corporate Sustainability
  • Business Values and Ethics
 
The Advanced Level is comprised of 5 modules:
 
  • Advanced corporate governance
  • Succession planning for Directors, Chairmen and CEO’s
  • Auditing boards for enhanced performance
  • Ethical leadership at Board Level
  • Organica Futuraä: An advanced case study on successful corporate governance
 
Each module of the Intermediate Level is self contained and will carry the approval of the Mauritius Qualification Authority.   Admission to the modules is open to members and non members of the MIoD. All participants receive an attendance certificate at the end of each module.  Participants who attend all eleven modules will receive an achievement certificate issued by the MIoD to confirm that the participant has achieved the intermediate level of knowledge in corporate governance.
 
Each module of the advanced level is self contained and will carry the approval of the Mauritius Qualification Authority. 
Admission to these modules is by application only based on:

Experience of participant at current level of business
OR

Position held in the organisation (Director, CEO, Group Company Secretary, Chairmen)
OR

Completion of all Intermediate Level modules All participants will receive an attendance certificate issued by the MIoD. Participants who have attended all five modules will be awarded an achievement certificate by the MIoD to confirm that the participant has achieved an Advanced Level of knowledge in corporate governance. Participants who achieve both Intermediate and Advanced Levels will be automatically admitted as Fellows to the Institute, providing they also meet the membership criteria.
 
 
Training Methodology
 
The programme is delivered using the very best in adult learning techniques and is based on Kolb’s learning cycle:
 
 
Every module has a shared foundation which is based on:
 
Motivation Stimulate the thinking of each participant through various training techniques
Information Present the material in a clear and concise way
Strategy  Create discussion and feedback through case studies and self assessments to allow each participant space to import the learning into their ownenvironment
Application Each session will include an action ideas sheet for participants to populate and take back to their organisation and the chance to identify barriers or red flags to importing the learning
 
The program is designed to be highly interactive through the use of icebreakers, discussion groups, case studies, film and media and interactive assessments at the appropriate level. The programme will, wherever possible use a co- facilitation method with local and/or international speakers on each topic.
